What Our Clients Say

John Smith, CEO, BBC Worldwide

John Smith, CEO, BBC Worldwide gave a response to a presentation by Despina Katsikakis, Chairman, DEGW at the Annual Founders' Lecture on 19 May 2009.

John’s presentation focussed on the transformation of BBC Worldwide, following the relocation programme from Woodlands to White City.

The move was an opportunity to reflect the BBC Worldwide's market position and to provide an efficient and stimulating environment for its staff, partners and visitors. It was also an opportunity to review the work process and work styles of BBC Worldwide staff and to develop a workspace that better supports the nature of their work, while also communicating their brand, identity and culture.

Over a 2 year period DEGW has:

  • Developed a strategic brief that assessed the opportunity to apply a flexible working model and identified the amount and types of space required to support the organisation. With this brief, Worldwide went to market to find space that met these requirements.
  • Once a building was selected, DEGW ran a strategic briefing and space planning process to capture detailed user requirements, generate preliminary future space budgets; and develop a stacking and blocking solution to ensure the most beneficial placements of teams and departments within the future space.
  • Developed a concept design to showcase BBC Worldwide's brands, vision and values.
  • The aspirational delivery of learning and teaching, curriculum and pedagogy
  • Lead a Change Management programme supporting Change Champions, creating buy-in from staff, supporting the Communications Team and aligning technology and support with the New Ways of Working. Most importantly, DEGW identified candidates to be mobile workers – 35% of staff do not have an assigned desk.
